WORLD – It’s been almost two full years now since the majority of artists moved back in with their parents to ride out Covid, and upon latest check in, yup — they’re still there.
It’s actually pretty impressive that they’ve been able to pull off such an extended stay. One artist cleverly told his parents he’d move out right after we “get over the hump”, knowing full well that means forever. Others, whose cities and locations have actually fully opened back up to normal, have had to get more creative, with lines like “I’ll just miss you guys too much if I leave” or “Please don’t throw me out I’m broke” (that one may actually be sincere). Guess once you get a taste of free rent and free meals after years of #adulting, it’s hard to want to go back.
On the flip side, artists’ extended visits have caused parents to slowly slip back into their teenage parenting roles, and many have reported their parents setting strict curfews, asking where they’re going and when they’ll be back every time they leave the house, and even enforcing “open door” policies and “hand checks” when their significant others are over. But it appears that is still better than paying rent and cooking.
So how long is too long to “Covid crash” at home? We’ll go out on a limb and say if they aren’t out by 2024, then it’s time for an intervention.
